The Ecosystem

Life Science Fyn, inspired by the timeless motto of the Three Musketeers, is an NGO dedicated to fortifying the entire regional life science ecosystem. We are financially supported by our partners, who wholeheartedly recognize the importance of a robust life science ecosystem in the region. Together, as ‘all for one and one for all,’ they all strive to foster networks, knowledge sharing, and cooperation across public and private stakeholders – with a special emphasis on the often vulnerable startups and spinouts. Rooted in the principles of collaboration and community, we are working with all stakeholders in the ecosystem to facilitate communication and trust. We believe that a strong ecosystem relies on trust, partnerships and collaborations, for the greater good of everyone in the ecosystem.

The Life Science Fyn ecosystem covers both private companies, educational institutions and public organisations within sectors such as healthtech, biotech, agrotech, pharma, cannabis, and medtech – that is, anyone working with something related to health or living organisms. Public Musceteers

University of Sourthern Denmark

University of Southern Denmark (SDU) offers a wide range of programs in life sciences. The university has several departments that conduct research on various topics within biology, from fundamental questions about how life evolved on Earth and physiological adaptations of organisms, to pressing environmental and societal challenges such as effects and mitigations of climate change, anthropogenic noise, endocrine disruptors, and more. SDU was Founded in 1998 (Odense University 1966-1998), and currently has ~4000 employees.

Odense University Hospital

Odense Universitetshospital (OUH) is a Danish hospital that provides high-quality healthcare services to the citizens of Denmark. OUH is affiliated with University of Southern Denmark (SDU), and the collaboration between OUH, SDU and local companies enables researchers to work together to develop new treatments for diseases, improve patient care, and advance scientific knowledge in life sciences.

Odense Municipality

Odense Municipality is internationally recognized for its robotics and life sciences sectors. Its strategic focus on life sciences has cultivated a thriving ecosystem, replete with top-tier research facilities and a highly skilled workforce. Being home to the University of Southern Denmark and the Odense University Hospital, Odense Kommune actively collaborates with academia, industry, and government agencies to propel life science innovation. This partnership-driven approach has catalyzed remarkable breakthroughs in medical technology, biopharmaceuticals, and healthcare. Odense stands at the vanguard of cutting-edge research, firmly establishing itself as a pivotal player in the global life science landscape.

University College Lillebælt

University College Lillebælt (UCL) is a modern higher education institution located in Odense, Denmark. Founded in 2008, UCL offers a diverse range of programs with a strong focus on life sciences. The college operates in several scientific areas, providing a talented workforce for the region. UCL has campuses in the cities of Odense, Svendborg, Vejle, Jelling, and Fredericia (satellite). Situated in the Region of Southern Denmark, home to more than 1.2 million Danes, UCL offers opportunities for higher and continuing education and applied research to a variety of end users.

Sydddanske Forskerparker

Syddanske Forskerparker is a business foundation that serves as a hub for knowledge transfer, collaboration, and community-building between research and educational institutions, as well as private and public companies. Their focus areas span a wide range, including health, technology, consulting, and start-up ventures. These research parks are located in the Region of Southern Denmark and support entrepreneurship and knowledge-intensive industries such as robotics, welfare technology, design, IT, green energy, and health and environmen

Nordic Microbes

Nordic Microbes specializes in the development of microbial solutions for sustainable agriculture. They have developed a unique and efficient technology called microbeTRAP that enables the discovery of new, beneficial microorganisms from nature. The company’s mission is to develop a new generation of natural, effective, and safe microbial products for agriculture, food, environment, and health. They collaborate with scientists, engineers, activists, and farmers to achieve this goal. Nordic Microbes was founded in 2021, currently has ~20 employees.

Evosep Biosystems

Evosep Biosystems aims to improve quality of life and patient care by radically innovating how protein-based clinical diagnostics are performed. They develop new technologies and solutions to make sample separation 10 times faster and 100 times more robust than today’s alternatives.The company’s flagship product is Evosep One, a plug-and-play liquid chromatography platform built for standardization. It delivers a high level of speed and robustness while still maintaining the sensitivity needed when performing clinical proteomics. Evosep was founded in 2016 and has ~60 employees.

Orifarm

Orifarm mission is to make healthcare more accessible to everyone by providing high-quality pharmaceuticals at affordable prices. Orifarm has embarked on an exciting journey of growth and is currently the largest supplier of parallel imported pharmaceuticals within the EU. They are also commercializing their own branded prescription, over-the-counter, and consumer healthcare products, and they have a strong generics portfolio. Orifarm was Founded in 1994, and currently has 1000+ employees.

Ampliqon

Ampliqon A/S is a manufacturer of PCR enzymes and laboratory reagents. They produce a wide range of standard and customized products that are widely used in hospitals, universities, research institutions, and life-science industries all over the world.Ampliqon’s product range includes PCR enzymes, DNA polymerases, buffers, kits, and accessories.

PentaBase

PentaBase specializes in molecular diagnostics assays for real-time PCR. They have developed highly sensitive and specific assays enabling personalized treatment based on detection, stratification, and monitoring of cancer biomarkers and respiratory viruses. The company’s proprietary technology, Intercalating Nucleic Acids (INAs®), provides unique abilities in the analysis and manipulation of genetic material. PentaBase’s product range includes assays for cancer, infectious disease, custom assays, custom oligos, and instruments 1. Their flagship product is EpiDirect® MGMT assay, which enables direct analysis of DNA methylation status without prior bisulfite conversion.

Amplexa Genetics

Amplexa Genetics A/S provides functional genetic analyses and develops clinical genetic tests. The company was founded in 2006 and is located in Odense, Denmark. The company’s mission is to provide knowledge that can help individuals make decisions. They have developed more than 100 different clinical genetic tests, mainly distributed in neurology, endocrinology, cardiology, and oncology.

Celvivo

Celvivo is a Danish company that specializes in 3D cell culture technology. Celvivo’s flagship product is ClinoStar, a 3D cell culture technology that allows the generation of uniform, reproducible, and functional spheroids and organoids. These spheroids mimic the function, structure, and architecture of in vivo cells. The technology thus lets you perform research using cell models with an unprecedented correlation between in vivo and in vitro conditions and closes the gap between 2D cell culture and cell function.

Aligecel

Algiecel have developed a plug & play photobioreactor that can be stacked and packed as it fits into standard shipping containers. The reactor is easily installable and requires little technical know-how from small and mid-size industrial clients. They offer compact, mobile microalgae producing photobioreactors fitting into standard shipping containers. The reactors enable the easy transformation of industrial CO2 emissions and energy (LED light) into raw microalgae biomass and oxygen. The company was founded in 2021.

MJJ Biotech

MJJ Biotechnologies is a Chinese and Danish joint venture that specializes in the development of antisense nucleic acid drugs. MJJ has developed a unique technology called Blockmir, which uses short, highly modified oligonucleotides to block specific miRNA binding sites on individual mRNAs. This achieves gene-specific upregulation on the protein level and sets the Blockmir technology apart from most other therapeutic modalities that aim to antagonize mRNA or protein activity. They are currently developing therapeutic Blockmirs to treat a wide range of diseases, including cancer, rare genetic and metabolic disorders, and respiratory viruses. MJJ Biotech (Ranger Biotechnologies) was founded in 2006, currently has ~20 employees.

GlyProVac

GlyProVac ApS aims to design and develop novel, efficient bacterial vaccine candidates based on a proprietary platform technology BEMAP. Using BEMAP, they have revealed that both benign as well as disease causing bacteria such as E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Shigella, extensively modify their proteins with distinct sugar molecules, known as O-linked glycosylations. These modifications drastically influence the topology of the protein and are particularly well recognized by the human immune response, and inclusion of these modifications are crucial for the development of efficient bacterial vaccines. GlyProVac was founded in 2018.

Omiics

Omiics is a Aarhus based company that provides RNA sequencing as a project-based service, giving easy access to cutting-edge sequencing technology and bioinformatics analysis, both for full and functional service. They have spent many years building expertise in every detail of RNA sequencing - from laboratory design to tailoring the bioinformatic analysis - so that their customer can focus on the bigger picture, ensuring the success of their project. Omiics offers end-to-end projects, partial assistance, and expert consulting. They help choose the optimal process for samples and have optimal facilities and trained personnel to prepare your material for sequencing. Transforming raw data from sequencing to publication-grade figures.

DanCann Pharma

DanCann Pharma is dedicated to pioneering cannabinoid therapeutics across various disease areas, aiming to revolutionize patients' health and well-being. Their products, developed through rigorous medical trials and holding medical marketing authorization, offer novel solutions for patients seeking an improved quality of life. Cannabinoids, whether derived from the cannabis plant or synthetically produced, interact with the human endocannabinoid system, forming the foundation of DanCann Pharma's groundbreaking approach. The company was founded in 2018.

HouseTest

HouseTest is a Danish company that specializes in testing for hidden mold in homes and buildings. The company offers a range of services, including dust and air sample testing, surface testing, and cleaning control. HouseTest's specialists have extensive knowledge of mold testing and can provide advice and suggestions to customers. The company's services are relevant in the context of the potential health risks associated with mold exposure, which can cause respiratory problems, allergies, and other health issues. The company was founded in 2011 and has 2 employees.

QNTM-Labs

QNTM Labs is an advanced analytical laboratory that provides research, development, and regulatory compliance services for pharmaceutical companies. The company is focused on providing chemical and biological analysis, as well as contract research and development. QNTM Labs is committed to being experts in the medical cannabis sector, offering qualified testing and specific expertise to ensure quality, safety, and compliance. The company was founded in 2020 and has ~30 employees.

Lifeline Robotics

LifeLine Robotics is a company that creates solutions for the automatic sampling of pathogens using robotics and AI. The company's goal is to shield and secure frontline workers from the danger of viral pathogen drug genetic sampling. LifeLine Robotics' flagship product is the swab robot, which was initially developed as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The swab robot was created in an effort to protect healthcare workers from the risk of cross-infection during manual swabs. The company was founded in 2020.

Ossiform

Ossiform develops patented 3D printing technology to produce natural, patient-specific, and resorbable bone implants that remodel into real, living bone. The company's mission is to improve the lives of people with bone defects by providing patient-specific, natural, and resorbable bone implants to reduce complications, improve functional and aesthetic outcomes, and obtain faster recovery. Ossiform's flagship product is P3D Bone, a personalized bone substitute made from pure, 3D printed ß-tricalcium phosphate that delivers a resorbable material with a natural bone-like porosity, optimized for the natural forming of new bone. The company was founded in 2017.

Alphalyse

Alphalyse is a Contract Research Organization (CRO) that provides protein analysis services to the biopharmaceutical industry. The company's services include host cell protein (HCP) analysis, impurity analysis, and protein characterization. Alphalyse's team of experts is composed of highly experienced and skilled scientists who are dedicated to providing high-quality services to their clients. The company's mission is to provide the best protein analysis service by offering access to their service-minded team of experts and top-of-the-line equipment.The company was founded in 2002 and has ~35 employees.

Eibe Consulting

EIBE Consulting is a Danish consulting firm that specializes in business development, strategy, and digitization. The company has over 20 years of experience in providing professional advice and coaching to clients in various industries, including Biotech. EIBE Consulting's mission is to help clients succeed with their growth opportunities by providing customized solutions based on their many years of experience with strategy and business development.

Ovodan Biotech

Ovodan are producing antibodies from egg. The egg yolk has a higher concentration of antibodies than in serum, so it is a more efficient source of antibodies. The antibody type that exists in egg is IgY and it is the avian homologue of IgG. The IgY antibodies can be purified and sold to the biotech industry. These antibodies con be used in for example in-vitro diagnostics and immunological assays. Ovodan Biotech was founded in 2011 in Odense.

2Care4

2Care4 is a company with headquarters in Esbjerg, they have expertise in import of medical products, generic medicines and distribution networks whroughout northern Europe. When a drug is developed, it is patented, which allows only one company to produce and sell that drug. The patent will expire after some years, which allows other companies to produce the same drug, but perhaps at competitive prices. 2Care4 has specialized in manufacturing, distributing generic drugs in a price-effective way, which in the end makes the drugs more accessible for the consumers. The company was established back in 2005 and today have 300 employees worldwide.

LakeAid

LakeAid, based in Svendborg, specializes in innovative environmental solutions focused on water restoration and treatment. The company leverages advanced nanobubble technology to enhance water quality in lakes and other bodies of water without relying on chemicals, making their approach both sustainable and energy-efficient. They are involved in several cutting-edge projects aimed at improving water ecosystems and wastewater treatment. LakeAid was founded in 2021, with a mission to combine scientific expertise in microbiology with practical applications that benefit the environment.

World Courier

World Courier is a global logistics company specializing in secure and timely delivery of critical healthcare products. With a vast international network, the company ensures the safety and integrity of innovative medications, including rare, orphan, and gene therapies. DB Lab / ALS

DB lab is a pharmaceutical analysis laboratory that conducts chemical, microbial and physical analysis as a service for the biotech industry. It is located in the south-eastern part of Odense and has existed since 1982.

AgroLab Denmark

Agrolab is specialized in testing pesticides, biocides and fertilizers in order to bridge the gap between the legal regulations, the product developers and the end users. They have expertise in the areas of Regulatory Consulting of Pesticides, Fertilizers and Biocides. They also offer field Studies according to GEP (Good experimental practice) and GLP (Good laboratory practice). They emphasize local interactions with both the end-user and the national authorities enabling a smooth process for the registration of products. Agrolab Denmark was founded in 1984 and has 19 employees in Denmark.

Nature Energy

Nature Energy is an international company with facilities in France, Nederland, Germany, UK and off course Denmark. They are experts in transforming bio-waste into biogas. The bio-waste can be from agricultural industries as well as the private homes. They place the biomaterial in bioreactors to extract the biogas, and the remnant biomaterial is repurposed as smell-reduced fertilizer.

HumAId

HumAId aims to lower the communicative barriers between deaf and hearing people. This is done through a translator-app that uses AI to make a real-time translation of text, speech and other mediums of communication into Danish sign language. HumAId has won the title as the world most promising social tech in 2022 and the best dansih university start-up in 2022

Osaia Health

Osaia is a health-care company focusing on osteoporosis, and consultations about how to live with this condidtion. They have developed an app called “mine knogler” that can educate the patients suffering from osteoporosis how to avoid bone fractures through lifestyle-changes. Mine knogler also provides osteroporosis patients with tools such as disease-logs, nutritional advice and booking consultations with osteroporosis experts. The App was launched in 2021.

Nordic Surpreme

Nordic Supreme is a cannabis company, that is set to advice and produce cannabis plants designed and bred for greenhouse growth. They perform two types of plant-breeding and has a huge variety of plants.

Echovice

EchoVice ApS focuses on developing health-promoting technologies to improve the production of ultrasound images during heart surgery. The company's vision is to promote technological development in the healthcare sector to assist professional staff and improve patient progress, while its mission is to develop user-friendly designs for specific cases where procedures and the field of work are difficult today. EchoVice works with professionals in the health sector to solve problems that they experience in their daily workflow. The company's first product, EchoVice, has a patent in Denmark and can hold and rotate the sample during ultrasound examinations of the heart via the esophagus, which helps the cardiologist and reduces the duration of the operation. Although the company's focus is currently on heart surgery, there is great potential for other types of surgery and examinations in the future. The company was founded in 2022.

LiveEquipe

LiveEquipe is a dynamic startup, dedicated to reshaping the equestrian landscape. With a vision to create cutting-edge technology that enhances the bond between horse and rider, they're a part of SDU Startup Station, facilitating their mission through expert guidance. By leveraging state-of-the-art sensor technology, LiveEquipe collects and processes data to provide real-time biofeedback to riders, thereby promoting rider-horse synergy and preventing injuries. Founded by two avid equestrians and civil engineering graduates in Health and Welfare Technology, their journey promises to revolutionize the equestrian world. The company was founded in 2022.

Nordic Phantoms

Nordic Phantoms develops and manufactures equipment for simulation-based training of healthcare professionals. The company's mission is to improve the quality of simulation-based equipment for rare procedures where there are currently no or very limited options for simulation-based training. By doing so, Nordic Phantoms helps healthcare professionals achieve the necessary routine and confidence, which in turn improves patient safety and ensures healthy lives. The company was founded in 2021.

Oceanwide Seaweed

Oceanwide Seaweed specializes in sustainable seaweed farming using innovative growth module technology. The company's mission is to revolutionize the future of sustainable food by providing a fast-growing and nutritious food source that does not require land, pesticides, and freshwater. Their flagship product is the Palmaria palmata cultivation, which uses a microporous net structure and a specialized hatchery technique to increase yield per square meter and reduce farming space compared to existing options. The company was founded in 2022.

Biomimica

Biomimica is on a mission to enhance the environmental sustainability of the clothing industry. The company is focused on developing a novel technology to produce robust and flexible artificial spider silk, which can serve as a replacement for environmentally harmful materials in various sectors, including clothing, transportation, and the wind turbine industry. The use of artificial spider silk has the potential to mitigate microplastics emissions into the environment and decrease CO2 emissions. Through their innovative approach, Biomimica seeks to contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly future for the textile and related industries. The company was founded in 2023.

B Proteomics

B Proteomics is a bioinformatics consultency company. They offer package deals of lean automatic workflows for LC-MS systems. They have expertise in this area and offer these system set-ups in a cost- and environmentally effective way. This expert service will be sold to other biotech companies needing the expertise to set-up a fully operational proteomics laboratory. B proteomics was established in 2023 and currently have 2 employees.

Corporate Health International

Corporate Health international have offered an endoscopic camera pill as an alternative to the traditional endoscopy. The pill travels naturally through your intestines and take pictures that are later analyzed. This method is much less invasive and requires far less health care resources. The company has headquarters in Inverness, Scotland, but have had a close cooperation with OUH since day one, which was way back in 2012.

Danish Life Science Cluster

The Danish Life Science Cluster is a national cluster for life science and welfare technology in Denmark. The cluster was established in 2021 as a neutral organization that brings together companies, knowledge environments, hospitals, municipalities, and organizations within life science and welfare technology. The cluster aims to build bridges, drive innovation, and create networks between these entities to create new and innovative health solutions for patients and the healthcare system. Danish Life Science Cluster has the national outreach, with hubs in 4 regions, and is often a partner in events offered by Life Science Fyn.

Food & Bio Cluster Denmark

Food & Bio Cluster Denmark is an organization that assists companies in accelerating innovation and sustainable development within the food and bioresource sectors. With a team of 40 specialists from diverse backgrounds, they manage regional, national, and international projects related to agriculture, bioresources, energy, environmental technology, and food.

International Community Odense

International Community Odense is a platform that provides support and resources for international residents living in Odense, Denmark. The platform offers a range of services and programs to help newcomers settle into the city, including a newcomer service, spouse service for accompanying partners, and job search seminars. International Community Odense also hosts events and activities, such as the International Welcome Day, Chat in Danish, and the International Book Club. The platform aims to create a welcoming and inclusive community for international residents, and to help them integrate into Danish society. International Community Odense is a valuable resource for anyone moving to Odense, whether for work or study, and can help make the transition to a new country and culture smoother and more enjoyable.

New Care Knowledge

New Care Knowledge is a network of specialists in welfare technology in Denmark. The network aims to strengthen the primary care sector in Denmark and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
